The Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu in social media, Segun Dada @DOlusegun has claimed that 800k Indians live and reside in Nigeria.

Verdict

This claim is FALSE. Data from the websites of the Indian Consulate in Lagos and its High Commission in Abuja showed that an estimated 50,000/60,000 Indians reside in Nigeria.

The Special Assistant to the Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, Segun Dada while responding to a post on X, claimed that 800k Indians live and reside in Nigeria.

The post in which he responded stated that Indians migrate to more countries than Nigerians.

The claim by Mr Segun Dada garnered over 200k views, more than 1.5k likes, and 207 reposts, according to X analytics.

Verification

A keyword search on Google led FACTWATCH to data analysis by the website of the India Consulate in Lagos.

According to data on the India Consulate’s website, the Indian community in Nigeria is estimated to be about 50,000 persons, including Indian nationals and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) card holders.

The analysis stated that the presence of a large Indian expatriate community in Nigeria adds value to the long-standing relationship between India and Nigeria.

This was also published on the website of the India High Commission in Abuja recently.
