Five killed in Borno IDP camp, police station

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Saturday attacked an Internally Displaced People’s camp at Damasak and the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno state, where they partially burnt an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier and killed five security agents

The spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Daso, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, said one hunter was killed in the Damasak attack while four police men lost their lives in the Nganzai attack.

He said the attackers deployed Rocket-Propelled Grenades and other sophisticated weapons in an attempt to overrun the town but were repelled by security agents.

The statement reads, “The Borno State Police Command has successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on Nganzai and Damasak communities, restoring normalcy and reinforcing security deployments in the affected areas.

Giving the breakdown, Daso said, “On April 4, 2026 at about 0100hrs, armed terrorists suspected to be members of Boko Haram/ISWAP attacked the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in an attempt to overrun the town. Police Divisional Officers, in collaboration with PMF operatives and Crack Squad on special duty, engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.

“The attackers, who deployed RPGs and other sophisticated weapons, caused damage to a section of the station and partially burnt an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier. Regrettably, four police personnel paid the supreme price in the line of duty” he said.

In a related incident on Saturday at about 0240hrs, he said the terrorists attacked Mallam Fatori IDP Camp in Damasak, targeting a CJTF/Hunters duty post at the entrance of the camp.

“During the attack, one member of the Hunters Group, Atom Abua (40 years), lost his life, while about 20 thatched houses and properties were destroyed” he said.

Daso noted that in both instances, combined teams of the Police, Military, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters responded swiftly, repelled the attackers, and prevented further damage.

“The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, Naziru Abdulmajid, has since deployed additional manpower and operational assets to the affected areas to strengthen security, intensify ongoing operations, and prevent any further attacks,” he added.

According to him, the CP commended the bravery and resilience of the officers who confronted the assailants and prevented them from overrunning the town.
