Ghanaian police arrest Nigerian suspect wanted over killing of FRSC officer, daughter

The Ghanaian police have arrested one Victor Benjamin Fajemirokun, a Nigerian wanted in connection with the killing of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official and her daughter in Ogun state.

George Ohene-Boadi, regional commander for The Eastern South Regional Police Command, who spoke at a press conference, said the 36-year-old suspect fled to Ghana to evade arrest by the Nigerian security officials.

He said the police acted after intercepting a video alleging that Fajemirokun had abducted and killed Lasisi Funmilayo, an FRSC staff member, and her daughter, Sewa, in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.

“The suspect was wanted by the Nigerian police, but he ran to Ghana to hide with his friends,” Ohene-Boadi said.

“The Eastern Sahara Regional Police Command, on receipt of the information that the suspect was hiding in his friend’s house at Akutia, quickly deployed an intelligence-led operation to arrest the suspect in his hideout in the Eastern region.

“The suspect is currently in police custody as frantic efforts are underway to hand him over to the Nigerian authorities.”

Funmilayo and her daughter were said to have travelled with Fajemirokun to Osun state on November 2.

Details of the events that followed remain under investigation by Nigerian authorities, who allege that the victims were killed by a group that included a self-acclaimed herbalist.

The Nigerian police had earlier launched a search for the herbalist after tracing communication records linked to Fajemirokun.

Officers later arrested two suspects in Osun and Ekiti states following undercover operations.

Police sources said the suspects provided information that aided the recovery of the remains of the victims in a bushy area.

The Ghana police said they are cooperating fully with their Nigerian counterparts to ensure the case is concluded.
