Lakurawa bandits kill three fishermen in Sokoto village raid

Three fishermen were killed on Tuesday when suspected Lakurawa bandits launched an early morning attack on the Sanyinna community in the Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Local sources said the victims were carrying out their daily fishing activities when the attackers struck, cutting their lives short in a brutal ambush.

The assault came just a day after similar attacks were reported in Sutti and Takkau villages within the same local government area, where two people sustained injuries.

Confirming the incidents, the Special Assistant to the Tangaza Council Chairman on Security, Garzali Raka, said the bandits also stole several livestock, including cows, camels, sheep, and goats, during the Monday attacks.

Raka commended the swift response of security forces, who pursued the attackers and recovered the stolen animals in the Siddi community after a fierce gun duel.

“Two residents who suffered gunshot wounds during the raids are currently receiving treatment at Tangaza General Hospital”, he said.

Raka voiced deep concern over the increasing frequency of attacks, particularly those occurring in broad daylight, noting that areas known for animal husbandry are being systematically targeted.

He called on both the federal and state governments to step up security efforts and restore peace to the area, emphasizing that stability is essential for meaningful development.

When contacted, the spokesman for the state police command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the incident.

He however said the command is on the trail of the attackers and vows to bring them to justice in no distance time.
