Plateau killings genocidal, sponsored — Mutfwang

The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has described the recent killings in the state as genocidal and alleged that they were being sponsored.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, on Tuesday, Mutfwang condemned the attacks which claimed at least 52 lives, including those of children, on March 28 in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas.

The governor stated, “I can tell you in all honesty that I cannot find any explanation other than genocide sponsored by terrorists.

“The question is, who are the persons behind the organisers of this terrorism? This is what the security agencies must help us to unravel.

“We must come to the point where we know the sponsors because it is not just the work of ordinary people.”

He accused unnamed forces of backing the violence with the aim of destroying entire communities in the region, saying, “This is being sponsored from somewhere, and I am sure that in the coming days, the security agencies will work together, not at cross purposes but in unison, to be able to bring out the requisite intelligence that will help us to put this matter behind us.”

The March 28 attacks, suspected to have been carried out by herders, left dozens dead and displaced many residents across affected communities in Plateau State
