As the administration of President Bola Tinubu gets closer to a two-year rule, many Nigerians have criticized it for failing to address the basic and important needs. From the sectors of the economy to security and upholding the fundamental principles of democracy, many Nigerians have already concluded that nothing special will emerge from this administration even with two more years to go.
Regarding this, social media users have shared a video showing a documentary on Tinubu’s rule in Nigeria allegedly being analyzed by Fox News.
Fox News, is an American multinational conservative news and political commentary television channel and website based in New York City, U.S.
The one-minute, 38-second video, with an inscription of the Fox News logo on the top right-hand side, highlighted many basic areas the Tinubu-led administration has failed to address in 702 days as president.
An X user, @mkadamu3 who shared the video on 23rd May, claimed that “Fox News has analyzed Tinubu’s rule in Nigeria.”
The video post by @mkadamu3 which has already generated over 10k views and more than 100 reposts and likes, was greeted with disagreements by X users. Some of them argued that this can’t be true.
FACTWATCH Nigeria observed this has been forwarded to some WhatsApp groups.
Verification
First, FACTWATCH Nigeria entered the keywords from the claim into Google search and discovered that this video alongside the same claim was first published by an X user, @Ezekwesirlii, on 3rd May. We also found out that this video has spread to a Facebook group recently.
A deeper investigation by FACTWATCH Nigeria showed that this documentary was recorded on 29 April 2025, as it was stated in the video that the president has already spent 702 in office. To arrive at this, a thorough calculation of the days when Mr Tinubu began as president was carried out.
As of May 24, 2025, President Tinubu has been in office for 727 days. To find the exact date he completed 702 days in office; this means we need to go back in time from May 24, 2025, by 727−702=25 days.
Counting back 25 days from May 24, 2025: From May 24, 2025, going back 24 days would be May 0, which means April 30, 2025.
We still need to go back 1 more day (25−24=1).
So, 1 day before April 30, 2025, is April 29, 2025.
The primary evidence
When this Fact Checker subjected the 19-second cut-out part from the video to a credible AI-generated detection tool, Hive Moderation confirmed that this video contains 99% AI-generated/ deepfake content.
Also, FACTWATCH Nigeria couldn’t find a similar documentary relating to this video on the official website of Fox News. This video cannot be found on the organization’s Facebook page, YouTube channel, and X account.
Verdict
The claim that Fox News analyzed Tinubu’s rule in Nigeria is FALSE. Findings have indicated that the video contains AI-generated and deepfake content. Also, this clip cannot be traced to the organization’s official website or social media accounts.
