Two soldiers, 9-year-old boy killed as insurgents attack military base in Borno

 

Two soldiers and a nine-year-old boy were reportedly killed on Thursday after insurgents raided some military barracks in Banki, Bama LGA of Borno state.

The attack, which happened around 10:15 pm, targeted the Bula Yobe forward operating base, 152 battalion, and the divisional police headquarters in Banki.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, three military vehicles were also set on fire.

Troops called in air support after coming under heavy fire. Guided by intelligence and surveillance, two A-29 Super Tucano aircraft carried out multiple strikes on the fleeing insurgents, killing “32 members of Boko Haram and ISWAP”.

The bodies of the soldiers have been taken to Maiduguri, while the remains of the boy, identified as Ismail Abubakar, was handed over to his family.

Makama noted that additional reinforcements have since been deployed to Banki and nearby areas.
