APC’s Ukachukwu wins Peter Obi’s polling unit

Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the ongoing 2025 Anambra State election, has been declared the winner at the polling unit of Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate.

At Polling Unit 019, Agulu Ward 11, Anaocha Local Government Area, Ukachukwu secured 73 votes, outpacing George Moghalu of the Labour Party, who garnered 57 votes. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate came third with 38 votes.

The polling unit, where Obi cast his vote in the 2023 presidential election, drew significant attention during the governorship election.

Obi had earlier expressed concerns about vote buying, noting reports from across communities suggesting that the practice had increased during the election. He cautioned that selling votes for immediate gain undermines long-term development in areas such as education, healthcare, and employment.

“What we are seeing today is vote buying at amounts ranging from N20,000 to N30,000 per voter,” Obi said. “By selling your vote, you compromise the future of your community — schools, hospitals, jobs, and other critical developments are at stake. This is a serious threat to democracy.”
