Imo: Abidjan returnee who set mother ablaze narrowly escapes lynching

Operatives of the Nigerian Police  Friday rescued one Johnbosco Ejiogu, an Abidjan returnee who set his mother ablaze, from instant mob justice.

Johnbosco Ejiogu is from Umudagu Mbieri community in Mbaitoli council area of Imo State.

Community sources told Crimefacts.news that Johnbosco got his mother, Pauline Ejiogu into their house after he doused the house in fuel and the set the house ablaze with his mother inside the house.

“When his mother was trying to escape the ensuing inferno, Johnbosco blocked off the exit with a knife and made sure the fire caught up with her before he locked her inside to burn”, the source told Crimefacts.news.

Before Johnbosco could flee the burning house, after ensuring his mother was trapped inside, the fire also caught up with him.

Johnbosco eventually riggled out of the fire with serious burns and was about to escape the community before youths of the community got wind of what was happening, rescued the mother who was already severly burnt, descended on him and gave him a resounding beating which may have led to his death but for the timely intervention of the police which rescued him from the mob and whisked him away.

His mother, Mrs Pauline Ejiogu whose situation was critical, was immediately rushed off to the hospital.

Beyond the fact that Mrs. Pauline Ejiogu is said to have in recent times complained of the son’s  attitude of selling off the family’s landed properties without recourse to anybody, nothing else is known to have warranted the dastardly act.

Community sources said Johnbosco had allegedly sold the first and second land belonging to the family without recourse to anybody and without offering any part of the proceed to his mother or sharing same with the family.

As at the time of filing this report, it is believed that the police may have taken Johnbosco to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
