Claim

Facebook page, Cbgist News has shared a story and photo of how a man demolished the house he built for his in-laws after their daughter divorced him after 10 years of marriage to another man.

According to Cbgist News, the incident, which took place somewhere in Zambia, has left people in shock and the brotherhood proud.

The report claimed that the man had invested significant time, effort, and resources into building the home for his in-laws as a gesture of goodwill during his marriage.

It added that following the dissolution of the couple’s decade-long union, the man allegedly took drastic action, tearing down the structure.

As of May 27, many Facebook users in Nigeria believed and have spread this story.

Verification

First, a thorough check on the report by Cbgist News showed that it lacks critical details.

Cbgist News didn’t give the date and the exact location in Zambia where this incident happened.

Also, it didn’t state t the name of the man who demolished his in-laws’ house, and the story didn’t show an authoritative confirmation from the Zambian government or security agencies.

This indicates that this report by Cbgist News is a tale by moonlight story.

When the image attached to the report was subjected to Google Lens, we discovered that this was an image of a demolition exercise in Kenya in 2018.

In a publication by a local news outlet in Kenya in 2018, hivisasa used this photo as a Feature Image and reported that the Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) had begun a demolition exercise targeted at buildings and business premises erected in road reserves.

hivisasa disclosed that the demolition, which began in Garissa, has seen buildings along the Kismayu road brought down by the Kenha officers.

Also, this photo appeared in another publication by NewsLine, a local Kenyan news organization, in October 2023.

In the report, Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka led a delegation of leaders from the Ukambani region on Saturday, October 14, 2023, to urge President William Ruto to order an immediate halt to the ongoing demolition of disputed land in Machakos County.

Verdict

Findings have shown that this story and photo of how a man demolished the house he built for his in-laws after their daughter divorced him after 10 years of marriage to another man is FALSE and MISLEADING.
