Suspected Members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) last week Thursday, murdered a family of four comprising three females and one elderly man in their apartment in Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Thursday.
Locals told CrimeFacts news on Friday that the Biafran agitators invaded their apartment while they were sleeping, killed them, and left their lifeless bodies on the floor of their rooms.
The source who preferred not to be named, disclosed that the terrorists tagged the family as saboteurs giving out information before killing them.
IPoB is an outlawed secessionist group seeking the exit of the five Southeast states from Nigeria. In the last four years, the group had fingered in the many attacks in the region.
A Facebook user, Chelsea Mary, a member of the family, confirmed the tragic incident in a series of posts a few days ago.
The spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident when contacted on Friday, identified the victim’s family as Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo from Ekwuru Isseke (Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke).
Ikenga said the joint security team has cordoned off the area for any untoward situation, adding that the bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited at the mortuary while investigations continue.
He said, “Following the simultaneous onslaught/joint clearance operations involving the police, military, and other security operatives to dislodge the criminal elements and deny them the space to commit havoc in the state, regrettably in the late hours of May 22, 2025, recorded a cowardly gruesome murder of a family of four, including three females and one man, by criminal elements at Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area.
“Preliminary information revealed that the criminals unprovokedly attacked the elderly man and his family members. The family was later identified as Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo from Ekwuru Isseke (Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke).
“The bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited at the morgue while investigations continue.”
According to him, the command, while commiserating with the relatives and friends of the victims, is currently working on some clues to arrest the perpetrators.
“The joint security team has also reinforced the area for any untoward situation. Further developments shall be communicated, please,” he added.
In a similar development, the Anambra State Police Command on Sunday said the security agencies had destroyed a local bomb factory and demobilized assorted improvised explosive devices after it raided a secessionist hideout in Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga said the hideout is one of the last strongholds of the secessionist group that was impregnable for over two years, which the hoodlums used to wreak havoc in the state.
Ikenga added that the joint security team, comprising the police, military, and operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Service, carried out the clearance operation of the hideout on Saturday.
He said, “The joint security team comprising the police, military, and operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Service on May 24, 2025, extended offensive operations to a criminal hideout at Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
“During the operation, a local bomb factory was destroyed, while assorted locally made improvised explosive devices were recovered and demobilized.
“The criminal camp is one of the last strongholds of the secessionist group that was impregnable for over two years, which the hoodlums used to wreak havoc in the state.
“It is pertinent to report that one of the IEDs buried around the Camp exploded during the onslaught and created a destructive impact on the road.
“The IED acted as a shield to prevent the Joint Forces from accessing the facility. Meanwhile, no life was lost during the operation.”
According to the PPRO, the security forces have sustained the operational security dominance and advancement aimed at fully reclaiming the area from the criminals.
